Generative AI Weekly - May 16, 2024
New models, features, and tools from OpenAI/Google, the other side of the Manhattan Project, and papers/courses for a deeper dive.
This week:
- GPT 4 o launched this week with a great demo. It has free pro-level features and a bunch of hidden capabilities with a significant feeling of improvement over 4 Turbo. The speed is wild, and this feels like a rare better/cheaper/faster moment! Some of the features outside the model (Her) are not yet available.
- Google IO was also this week with hundreds of announcements across Gemini and the existing app suite. The response to SORA looks very impressive. Like GPT 4 o, multi-modal capabilities seem to be becoming a fast standard.
- The exponential growth of these models doesn't seem to be slowing down.
- In less exciting news, Generative AI is becoming the default within Google search.
- "AI Copilots Are Changing How Coding Is Taught"
- GPT creating a DCF for Apple in moments.
- "Anthropic AI Launches a Prompt Engineering Tool that Generates Production-Ready Prompts in the Anthropic Console"
- "Why AI Can Never Make Humans Obsolete"
- Cory Doctorow on "AI is a WMD"
- And for a paper to (use GPT 4 o) to explore this week, "WildChat: 1M ChatGPT Interaction Logs in the Wild".
- Finally - for the weekend agenda - "Large Language Model Course" covering:
- LLM Fundamentals covers essential knowledge about mathematics, Python, and neural networks.
- The LLM Scientist focuses on building the best possible LLMs using the latest techniques.
- The LLM Engineer focuses on creating LLM-based applications and deploying them.
